There were 249 million worldwide in the 3rd quarter of 2020 according to Digimind, reaching 306 million at the end of 2021. The French would have 22 million to visit the social network each month, or 3 million more than 1 year ago. This evolution may be due to the health crisis and the various restrictions put in place around the world, but the new version of July 2021 certainly has something to do with it as well. Available on IOS and Android, the application offers features that sometimes lack visibility, whether they are old or new. This article offers 25 tips to try to push the ghost-headed network to its maximum possibilities.
1 – Make a video or audio call on Snapchat
One of the biggest changes that Snapchat made in March 2016 was the addition of an audio and video chat feature. This calling option is found in Snapchat’s chat and to initiate it, one must start a conversation. Following this, a phone and a camera appear on the contact’s card.
To start an audio or video call, simply tap on the phone or camera icon respectively. If necessary, it is possible to switch from a voice call to a video call: then click on the camera icon. The reverse also works: to change a video conference into a simple phone call, press the phone icon.
If the other party is not there, an audio message can be sent to them, like an answering machine. To do this, press the phone icon to start recording and stay in this position throughout. When the button is released, the recording stops and the message is sent immediately, without the possibility of modification. So be ready before starting.
Note: There is no confirmation process once the call or recording is initiated. It is common to accidentally tap the camera icon, but other than that, this feature is very intuitive and easy to use.
2 – Overlay multiple Snapchat filters
Snapchat has so many filters that it can be hard to choose. Luckily, the latest version offers the ability to layer multiple filters. It’s now common to receive Snaps decorated with a color, location, date, decoration, and augmented reality filter all at once.
To choose the first filter after creating a Snap, simply scroll the screen to the left or right. Once selected, you must save it by pressing the small stack of paper with a + sign, at the bottom of the tools column, located on the right of the screen. The other filters are added in the same way, by scrolling through them and pressing the dedicated icon. It is possible to apply only one filter of the same type. For example, it is not possible to use 2 color filters. By pressing the icon again, you can see the list of filters used. It is then possible to delete some of them by clicking on the small cross to the right of their name.
3 – Add, crop and rotate emojis and stickers to photos
To enhance Snaps, photos or videos, there are many emojis and bitmojis to place freely. There are also a multitude of stickers similar to those offered by other messaging applications, such as Facebook Messenger. These playful decorations offer a nice variety: cacti, kittens, giraffes and other patterns of all kinds.
To access it, you must first take a photo in Snapchat. Then, the toolbar appears on the right of the screen: the folded paper icon placed at the top, between the pencil and the scissors, is the one that contains the emojis, bitmojis and stickers. All you have to do is tap on the desired images to add them to the Snap.
Once the decorations are added to the Snap, it is easy to move them with your finger, but also to rotate or change their size by rotating, spreading or pinching 2 fingers. The number of emojis and stickers is not limited. To delete them, simply drag them to the trash icon that appears on the screen when one of them is captured.
Finally, it is possible to use emojis creatively on Snapchat to create your own filters. To do this, you have to choose one of the most transparent ones and enlarge it until it covers the entire screen.
